Safety

An enclosing net
the panopticon we built
And the illusion of choice.
We lost our safety
willingly — to false freedoms.

Bus thoughts (diceman sayeth travel edition)

There is no such thing as a mistake, every decision… whether for ill or good, has become the foundation of your character today.

If you arent happy with who you are today, then your past has allowed you to see that, and the now is the time to make the changes you want… only you can do it and as long as you truly desire change, you can make it happen.

What is the nature of selfishness?

Is it a bad thing?

No

or at least, contextually it is a good thing.

A wise man once said, “to love others thou must first love thyself“. While this can be interpreted in many ways (from the mundane, superficial, and downright naughty) In this context to choose to interpret it as thus…

Without understanding, caring or ensuring your own survival, there is no way you can possible hope to care for, help or love anyone else.

Is it selfish to ensure you can eat? That you don’t live in a cardboard box? Is it selfish to live in a larger house then others?

If you answered yes to that last question then let me ask you, in your house… do you have physical space to seat or sleep another human being? If you do, why don’t you house someone off the streets? Is it because you value your own privacy, your space, your families safety?

Getting a higher paid job allows you to pay more taxes, more money in the economy, to help those who are struggling. Now, this is not to say that doing everything for just yourself is the right thing to do, understanding the group dynamic and how your actions influence others is important. Here is another quote for you from A beautiful mind.

Nash: If we all go for the blonde and block each other, not a single one of us is going to get her. So then we go for her friends, but they will all give us the cold shoulder because no on likes to be second choice. But what if none of us goes for the blonde? We won’t get in each other’s way and we won’t insult the other girls. It’s the only way to win. It’s the only way we all get laid.

Do whats best for yourself and the group. A simple enough concept.

Makes sure you can survive so the group can survive.

Have that chocolate croissant.

…Keep on keeping on

On this great plane we dwell lies a marvelous set of scales. Maintaining the balance between the vastness of nature and the impact of human activity. Are we the pillar holding it up or are we the child looking to wreck and tip it over?

I’d like to hope after 200,000 years we’d be past infancy, but if a child plays at being an adult, do we take it seriously?

I was told today by a hypnotherapist that I am whats called a “positive anchor” (one of my customers told me, this was not a session I went to) and apart from feeling pretty good about the complement it got me thinking.

It takes so little to positively impact the lives of those around you.

Now if you can raise millions of dollars for charity…great… then do that, but for those of us who can’t, find a way, in your daily life, to create opportunities for interactions with your community. Ask your neighbour about their day, have a chat with the gent ahead of you in-line for groceries. It doesnt take much and it could make someones day.

.

Its the things we receive willingly for free that is treasured the most. Love, companionship, friendship, community and family.

Thanks for reading, and love thyself and those around you.

Morning pondering

As I ponder upon the dew

streaking away from my windscreen

I wonder, how much life is contained

In that drop of water?

Without it life could not be sustained.

.

As my car drives down the highway

I cannot fathom the life underneath the road

Does it thrive? Or does humanity impede it?

My thoughts affect this not one bit.

.

And finally I, with some regret,

consider my limited lifespan

Asking, what is a century to the cosmos?

Should I despair at infinity?

…naar, such a thought is absurdity.
